Takeda Shingen - How to Gain Personal Wisdom

Young people must get personally acquainted with an accomplished, morally upstanding warrior. Each day, hear that warrior recount life experiences. After a month, 30 principles will be known, after a year, 300. By the end, the young warrior will be much better. Throw out evil, take in good, become intimate with your own wisdom.

Takeda Shingen explains, “learning is to a man as the leaves and branches are to a tree, and it can be said that he should not be without it. #Learning is not only reading books, however, but is rather something that we study to integrate with our own way of life.”

“One who is born into the house of a warrior, regardless of his rank or class, first acquaints himself with a man of military feats and #achievements in #loyalty, and, in listening to just one of his dictums each day, will in a month know 30 precepts. Needless to say, if in a year he learns 300 precepts, at the end of that time he will be much the better.”

”Thus, a man can divide his mind into three parts: he should throw out those thoughts that are evil, take up those ideas that are good, and become intimate with his own #wisdom… I would #honor and call #wise the man who penetrates this #principle, though he lacks the #knowledge of a single Chinese character. As for those who are learned in other matters, I would avoid them regardless of how deep their knowledge might be.”

“Young people must get personally acquainted with an accomplished, morally upstanding warrior.  Each day, hear that warrior recount life experiences.  After a month, 30 principles will be known, after a year, 300.  By the end, the young warrior will be much better.  Throw out evil, take in good, become intimate with your own wisdom.”

Recently there is lots of talk about mentorship - this is not a new concept.  As a #samurai, each house had many such people with whom young #warriors would be proud to call #mentors.  These days, it appears that we seek more and more mentors online.

Hundreds of thousands of Instagram accounts exist claiming they're #business development #experts.  Teenagers with no life experience post and repost thousands of intellectual #businessquotes and gain 100K+ clueless followers, desperate to make something of themselves.  Strangers with "#Entrepreneur" profiles DM you with obvious sales pitches attempting to sell you ebooks, online courses, and the big finale - mastermind groups and direct access to… #MENTORSHIP! (for a few thousand a month of course)

The catch is they don't know you. They don't care about you.  They don't give a damn if your business fails.   If you run out of #money, they'll be quick to dump you in the trash like last week's festering garbage.

This is NOT true mentorship!  #Realmentors don't want your #money - they want a relationship with you.  They have your back when life gets #tough.  They stand beside you in your best times and your worst times.
